At Leukerbad, Switzerland, Michael Mair and teammates Giorgio Piantanida and Werner Perathoner used changing conditions and a switch in skis to give Italy its first-ever 1-2-3 sweep of the top three places in a World Cup men’s downhill.
Mair, who scored his only other World Cup downhill victory in 1985 in France, was timed in 2:19.08 as he won the race in which late starters benefited from changing conditions.
