An Aeroflot passenger plane crashed in northern Siberia, killing an unspecified number of people, the Soviets’ Tass news agency reported. Tass said the three-engine Yakovlev 40, which normally carries about 30 passengers, crashed near the Nizhnevartovsk airport, near the Arctic Circle, after departing for the western Siberian oil town of Tyumen. The crash was the second in a week in the Soviet Union. On Jan. 18, a Tupolev 154 airliner crashed while landing in Krasnovodsk in Turkmenia, killing 11 people and injuring 12.
