The son-in-law of late Soviet leader Leonid I. Brezhnev will go on trial for abuse of power during his stint as deputy interior minister and for accepting bribes totaling 650,000 rubles, worth more than $1.1 million at the official exchange rate, the official Tass news agency said. The investigation into the charges against Yuri M. Churbanov, 51, who has been in jail since his arrest in 1983, is over and “the case will be handed over to a court,” Tass quoted one official as saying. The news agency did not mention Churbanov’s relationship with Brezhnev, who has been the target of criticism and dishonor since Mikhail S. Gorbachev became Communist Party chief.
