For the first time since the current unrest erupted last Dec. 9, an Israeli civilian was seriously injured Sunday.

Dov Kalmanovitz, a 35-year-old resident of Beit El, a Jewish settlement on the West Bank near the Arab city of Al Bireh, suffered burns over 95% of his body when a gasoline-filled bottle was thrown through the windshield of his car.

The incident occurred on the road between Beit El and Al Bireh. Kalmanovitz, an accountant, was in critical condition at the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.

Other residents of the settlement formed a motorcade of about 20 cars and drove by Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir’s Jerusalem home Sunday night, demanding punishment for the Arabs they said were responsible for the attack.
