Egypt Sandstorm Kills 2, Shuts Suez Canal
CAIRO —
(UPI) Two women were killed Monday when their two-story apartment building collapsed in a dense sandstorm that also halted shipping in the Suez Canal.
The deaths occurred in a village northwest of Cairo, the newspaper Al Gomhouriya reported.
In the Suez Canal, 51 ships, including four British military vessels, were stranded, officials said.
Winds up to 60 m.p.h. laden with dust also forced the closure of all desert highways and Alexandria harbor.
