Beginning March 15, AST Research, an Irvine-based computer products company, will begin offering its own version of the OS/2 operating system incorporated in IBM’s new line of personal computers. The operating system is the master software that controls the basic functions of a computer, allowing it to run other programs and respond to user commands. AST said its AST MS OS/2 software will be available for its full line of personal computers. AST has licensed the OS/2 technology from Microsoft Corp., which developed the software for IBM’s new Personal System/2 line.
