Richard A. Popham, Ex-Manager of Manhattan Project Plant

Richard A. Popham, 74, former plant manager of the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, N.M., which developed the atomic bomb during World War II. Popham began a long career at Ohio State University in 1936 when he was hired as an assistant in the botany department. He was an emeritus professor of the department when he died. In 1942 and 1943, Popham was chief ballistician for the Scioto Ordnance Plant at Marion, Ohio. From 1943 to 1945, he was at Los Alamos. In Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday of unannounced causes.
