Italy’s Carlo De Benedetti raised his offer for Belgian conglomerate Societe Generale de Belgique in his quest for an additional 15% stake in Belgium’s biggest company. De Benedetti’s French holding company, which already owns an 18.6% stake in Societe Generale, said it had raised its offer by $17, to $114 per share. The move follows a rival bid led by a French group, Compagnie Financiere de Suez, which has purchased a 10% stake in the Belgian company and controls an additional 10%.
