U.S. District Judge Vincent L. Broderick sentenced...
U.S. District Judge Vincent L. Broderick sentenced a former senior vice president of Shearson Lehman Bros. to five years in prison for an $18-million check-kiting scheme. Mark L. Stahl, 45, who pleaded guilty to four counts of wire fraud last June, was also sentenced to five years probation by Broderick and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. Although he admitted to a much larger scheme involving more than $18 million, Stahl pleaded guilty to fraudulently transferring Shearson funds totaling more than $1 million between November, 1986, and March, 1987.
