59 Die in Bangladesh Rioting

DHAKA, Bangladesh —
Bombings and fierce street battles between supporters of rival candidates erupted today during fraud-ridden local elections, killing at least 59 people and injuring about 3,000. Unofficial reports compiled by news organizations put the death toll at more than 100.
One election official was beheaded by mobs, and security forces fired into battling crowds in several instances, police said.
