St. Andrew’s Society

I should like to correct a statement to the effect that social and other events of the St. Andrew’s Society of Los Angeles are open to non-Scots and so by implication to all comers (“Raise Ye Glass for Scots’ Burns Night Traditions” by Dick Roraback, Jan. 16).

On the contrary, the constitution of our society (the oldest of its kind in the Southland) requires us to be essentially devoted to charitable and education projects. Our social events are incidental only and only for members in good standing and their personally invited guests. The practice of some of the many other Scottish groups in the Southland may be different, of course, from ours. I wish only to avoid embarrassment to those who might arrive unaware of the nature of our Society.

GEDDES MacGREGOR,

president, Los Angeles
