2,200 Died in China Mines

BEIJING —
Coal mine accidents killed 2,200 Chinese workers last year, most in small mines noted for their lack of proper safety measures, the newspaper China Daily said Friday. The paper, quoting a report from the China Personnel Journal, said deaths from mining accidents were down 30% from 1985. It did not give figures for 1986.
