Frederick Loewe, who with Alan Jay Lerner composed such classic musicals as “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot” and “Brigadoon,” was in fair condition Friday after suffering a heart attack.

Loewe, 86, was admitted to Desert Hospital on Thursday and placed in intensive care, hospital spokeswoman Linda Riggs said.

He was out of intensive care Friday and his condition was upgraded from serious to fair in the afternoon, she said.

Riggs, acting on instructions from Loewe’s conservator, declined to identify the composer’s ailment. But a source said Loewe had suffered a heart attack, which Riggs declined to “confirm or deny.”
