WRONG ON TWO COUNTS

Share

I read Richard Gilman’s interesting review about Julius Lester, a black who converted to Judaism (The Book Review, Jan. 31), but Gilman obviously failed to investigate current religious trends.

Gilman thinks that not very many white Protestants or Catholics convert to Judaism. He is wrong. A considerable number of Christians now convert to Judaism.

Furthermore, Gilman says “that Judaism neither proselytizes nor is friendly to those who wish to join.” He is wrong again. Rabbis, especially from the Conservative and Reform movement welcome and are very helpful to Christians desiring to convert.
