Ousted Fiji Commander Now Envoy to Britain
From Reuters
SUVA, Fiji —
This South Pacific republic Monday appointed as its first ambassador to Britain a brigadier who was ousted as chief of the armed forces in a military coup in May.
Brigadier Ratu Epeli Nailatikau was in Australia on May 14 when Lt. Col. Sitiveni Rabuka, then No. 3 in the armed forces hierarchy, stormed Parliament to depose the elected government.
Rabuka, now a brigadier, assumed command of the armed forces on the day of the May coup. Nailatikau was retired and has been unemployed for the past nine months.
