Bishop Reports $197,000 Loss for 1st Quarter

Bishop Inc. said it lost $197,000, or 8 cents a share, in the first quarter ended Dec. 31, compared to a loss of $104,000, or 4 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales fell 5% to $2.4 million.

The company, which makes tools used to design printed circuit boards, said the drop in revenue was caused in part because engineers increasingly are using computers to design the circuit boards. The company, formerly Bishop Graphics, added that sales fell in its commercial products division because it sold its Newport Beach art supply operation in March.
