LA PLATA, Md. —
A Baltimore man was charged Wednesday with stealing an original copy of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution signed by President Abraham Lincoln when he abolished slavery.
The document, 30 historical stamps honoring famous Maryland blacks and a Maryland flag were stolen Feb. 17 from the Charles County Courthouse, police said.
Charles Iampieri Jr., 30, was arrested at his home Wednesday and charged with theft, police said. The copy of the amendment has been recovered, but the stamps have not been found.
