Israeli troops shot dead two Palestinians today during widespread unrest in the occupied territories on the day that Secretary of State George P. Shultz arrived to launch a new Middle East peace drive.

Soldiers arrested 100 Palestinians in Khabatiyeh village suspected of lynching an Israeli collaborator. (Story, Page 11.) They destroyed the houses of two villagers suspected of hanging the man from a utility pole, military sources said.

According to U.N. figures, 65 Arabs have been killed by Israelis since riots began in the occupied territories, where 1.5 million Palestinians live.

The Arab-owned Palestine Press Service in Jerusalem identified the latest victims as West Bank residents Sami Dayeh, 14, of Nablus, and Isam Saeed Abu Khalifa, 18, of the Jenin refugee camp.

An army spokesman said soldiers opened fire in the Jenin camp to quell “massive disturbances,” killing one person and wounding another.

The spokesman said the army was checking the report of a second killing, but a Rafidiyeh Hospital spokesman in Nablus said Dayeh died of a bullet wound to his chest.
