The Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery met into the evening at the denomination’s Springfield, Mo., headquarters, to discuss the relatively lenient three-month preaching ban recommended for evangelist Jimmy Swaggart by Louisiana district church officials. The national church executives were expected to ask the Louisiana district to reconsider their penalty for Swaggart. The television evangelist has confessed to “incidents of moral failure,” believed to involve pornographic liaisons with a convicted prostitute.
