The Chicago Cubs want an escape clause added to a contract promising to stay in the city, allowing them to leave if residents opposed to night baseball vote to ban alcohol in the Wrigley Field neighborhood, authorities say.

Cub Vice President Don Grenesko said voting the ballpark precinct dry would be a “vindictive kind of measure” that would be devastating to the baseball club.

“There’s no question it would have an impact on attendance,” Grenesko said. “You’re talking about 2 million fans that come out every year and want to have a beer or two and enjoy the game.”
