About 1,500 workers staged an illegal strike for five hours at a steel plant in southwestern Poland and won a promise of a yearly bonus, a dissident source said. Solidarity activist Jozef Pinior said in Wroclaw that the outlawed Solidarity union at the ZNTK rolling stock plant in the city called the strike to protest the differences in recent wage increases between workers and supervisors and the company’s refusal to pay bonuses. There was no immediate government comment on the workers’ action, the second illegal strike since government-imposed price increases went into effect Feb. 1.
