Arkansas Police Chief Charged With Pilfering

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. —
Police Chief Jess (Doc) Hale was suspended with pay Friday after being charged with taking less than $200 from a drugstore cash register.
Hale, 47, was released on his own recognizance after pleading not guilty to the misdemeanor charge. Trial was set for May 24.
Lloyd King, Pulaski County chief deputy prosecutor, said Hale took money over the past several weeks from Buice Drug Store, a popular coffee stop for police officers. The amount was not disclosed, but the misdemeanor charge means it was less than $200.
