Business Area Needs ‘Upgrading’

Share

Voters in Bellflower turned down a redevelopment plan in 1982. That plan would have taken a lot of homes and had a clause which said that any objections were already overruled. No one is afraid of revitalization, but we must fear a Redevelopment Agency which can do as it pleases with your property. Could it be that a special election is being planned so that redevelopment can be slipped in with little fanfare?

We do need to upgrade the business area of our city. Let’s begin by taking out the flower beds and getting back our parking spaces. Three former business locations are now occupied by a church. Let’s move them to the suburbs and get back our business atmosphere.

Since our last City Council election, too much of our civic business has been conducted behind closed doors. Too much money has been given away. Too much money, $270,000, was lost in the stock market. All behind closed doors!
