I was very impressed by the insightful piece of Sister Maloney. She hit the nail right on the head when she pointed out the dichotomy between the methodology used by the Catholic Church with respect to its teachings on sexual matters and its other social teachings. The U.S. bishops have used the very powerful metaphor of a seamless garment in recent years to refer to the holistic approach which the church must take towards moral issues. It is hard to weave such a seamless garment when you start with different pieces of cloth. The only possibility in such a case is a patchwork quilt.
