Communist rebels killed two soldiers in Manila’s suburbs, police said. The assassins shot and killed Sgt. Edwin Salalima as he was walking near his home in suburban Taguig, officers said. In a separate attack, rebels killed Sgt. Juanito de Olazo after he drove to a church in suburban Malabon to attend services. Meanwhile, President Corazon Aquino was forced to cancel a scheduled ceremony inaugurating a housing project in the southern Philippines after 300 pickets accused her of ignoring the poor.
