“Daffy!” MGM/UA. $14.95. Practically everybody has his favorite character from the Warner Bros. cartoons. Mine’s the wise-quacking, spit-spraying Daffy Duck, whose oeuvre has seldom if ever been better represented than on this one-hour compilation of eight classic cartoons from the furious fowl’s heyday (MGM/UA owns the right to pre-1948 Warner Bros. releases). The anthology jumps around from period to period (including a very early and very lunatic “Daffy Duck and Egghead”) and director to director (Avery, Clampett, Freleng and McKimson among them); only a couple of the selections are less than hilarious. Warning: After watching the wildly surreal “Book Revue,” where Daffy--in zoot suit and inexplicable Russian accent--scat-sings a warning to Little Red Riding Hood as the wolf prepares to make a meal out of his skinny leg, you may need your ribs bandaged. Also available: “Bugs!,” “Porky!” and “Elmer!” Information: (213) 280-6208. *** 1/2
