Agricultural Exports at Levels Projected

Government trade figures show that U.S. agricultural exports in the first three months of the 1988 fiscal year were on target with Agriculture Department projections.

The value of shipments in the first quarter of the year, which began Oct. 1, was estimated at $8.46 billion, up 10% from the pace of a year earlier, according to the department’s Foreign Agricultural Service.

Department officials have forecast 1987-88 exports at $32.5 billion, up from $27.9 billion in 1986-87.

The actual volume of shipments in the first quarter was reported at 36.2 million tons, up 11% from a year earlier. For the year, those are expected to total about 142.5 million metric tons.
