Opening Doors at Men’s Clubs

I was appalled at Paul’s comments! Not because he was against allowing women to become men’s club members, but because of his narrow-minded, backwoods statement, “ . . . Ladies have adopted and stepped into our pants, abandoned the kitchens and nurseries. . . . “ I would like to know how mentally stimulating he would find staying at home reading recipe books and changing diapers all day.

Paul’s self-appointed seat of superiority is condemnable. And his reference to men’s clubs as being “ . . . The last place of refuge for males . . . “ suggests that he has a resentful attitude toward women and questions his own capabilities. Could it be he fears a lady can do the job equally as well if not better than he?

I’m not against the idea of men having their own private meeting places to congregate with members of the same sex, discuss common problems and have a few hours of “man talk,” but who’s to say that men like Paul won’t resort to conducting all of their business dealings in these clubs as a clandestine way of excluding their female competition?

It’s about time women became aggressive, stepped out of men’s shadows and made their own marks in the world. If only Paul and others like him would be more open-minded, there would be no need for these battles. But until they stop considering us as second-class citizens, worthy of a microwave instead of a key to the executive washroom, the sparks will continue to fly.
