Life magazine has $1,000 waiting for the current owner of a dollar bill with serial number: G 27909101 H as part of a special story this month on the life of a greenback. A Life photographer caught the buck passing from a Chicago bank to numerous bars, a beauty shop, a fish market, a Chicago Bears-Redskins playoff game and a skid row mission. The photographer caught some 40 transactions up until the bill’s last hand--a Culver City ice cream vendor, who drove off in a truck. The magazine, which wants to continue monitoring the greenback’s travels, says the normal life span of a $1 bill is only 18 months, or about 400 transactions.
