The golden age of broadcasting for women may be over, according to “Today” co-host Jane Pauley. Speaking on her way to the 13th annual awards ceremony for the American Women in Radio and Television this week, Pauley said women are more likely to be fired than men when the networks make budget cuts again. Pauley says there was a time when “raw politics” probably helped create opportunities for women in broadcasting but now she says “raw economics” have taken over. “I’m disappointed that the momentum of 10 years ago seems to be gone,” she said. Pauley is this year’s chairwoman of the association’s awards program, which honors those who make realistic portrayals of women on television and radio.
