24 Home Builders in State Among Top 100 in Nation
Twenty-four California-based housing producers made the list of the nation’s top 100 builders published in the March issue of Professional Builder magazine.
The highest-ranked California builder--based on housing starts in 1987--was Kaufman & Broad Homes Corp., Los Angeles, in 12th place, with 5,200 starts. Following closely, in 13th place with 5,055 starts, was William Lyon Co., Newport Beach.
Nationally, the largest producer was Trammell Crow Residential Cos., Dallas, with 12,068 starts last year, followed by the Ryland Group Inc., Columbia, Md., 9,300; Cardinal Industries, Columbus, Ohio, 8,794; NV Ryan L. P., McLean, Va., 8,389; U. S. Home Corp., Houston, 7,800; Lincoln Property Co., Dallas, 7,727, and Pulte Home Corp., West Bloomfield, Mich., 7,550.
The other California builders, with their 1987 ranking and starts in parentheses were: CoastFed Properties, Beverly Hills (16th, 3,800); A. G. Spanos Cos., Stockton (17th, 3,741); Lewis Homes, Upland (21st, 3,300); Robertson Homes, Stockton (25th, 3,000); Pacific Scene Inc., San Diego (31st, 2,139); Watt Industries, Santa Monica (32nd, 2,103); Barnett-Range Corp., Stockton (37th, 1,867); Standard Pacific L. P., Costa Mesa (40th, 1,800); Mission Viejo Co., Mission Viejo (45th, 1,705).
