Alberto Tomba of Italy edged World Cup champion Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland in a parallel slalom at Saalbach, Austria, the official end of the World Cup skiing season.

Tomba, the slalom and giant slalom champion who was beaten by Zurbriggen for the overall title Saturday, topped the Swiss skier by 0.291 seconds in the final.

The parallel slalom is a two-run, head-to-head race between two skiers and counts only for the Nations’ Cup.
