Campeau Corp., battling against R. H. Macy & Co. in a takeover fight for Federated Department Stores, was ordered to extend its $6.5-billion offer. The Securities and Exchange Commission said Campeau must keep its offer open for at least five days after providing detailed information about the financing of its takeover effort. Bids by both Campeau and Macy were set to expire on April 4. Federated’s board of directors has asked both Campeau and Macy officials to present their best and final offers at a meeting scheduled for today.
