Lakers to Play Jazz Without Magic Again

Share

The Lakers, who haven’t played since last Tuesday, when they defeated Utah, 122-111, at the Forum in their best performance without Magic Johnson, get another shot at the Jazz tonight, this time on Utah’s home floor.

Neither Johnson nor Michael Cooper, whose severely sprained ankle has caused him to miss 18 of the last 20 games, will play here, and neither is expected to play Sunday, when the Lakers play host to the Sacramento Kings.

The Lakers have lost four of their last five games on the road but have won here on their last two visits. The key to their win last Tuesday was their dominance on the boards: They outrebounded the Jazz, 54-26, as Kurt Rambis had 12 rebounds in 18 minutes, including 7 on the offensive boards.

The newest Laker, Tony Campbell, who played with the Albany Patroons of the Continental Basketball Assn. until signing with the Lakers Wednesday, will make his debut.

The time of the game, originally 6:30 p.m., PST, has been changed to 7.
