Work stoppages by Armenian nationalists seeking to have the Nagorno-Karabakh region in the Azerbaijani republic become part of the Armenian republic persist, the Soviet government newspaper Izvestia reported. It said that bakery, dairy and meatpacking plants in Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, are back in operation but that other plants are still idle. Meanwhile, a Swedish-based nationalist group reported that an Estonian nationalist, his family and the wife of another nationalist were kicked out of the Soviet Union. A spokesman for Hjalpcentralen said one of the expelled, Jaan Nomm, was forced to leave after making a nationalistic speech on Feb. 24, the 70th anniversary of Estonia’s pre-Soviet independence.
