Jury Brings 1 Verdict in Trial of White Supremacist Group
The jury reached a verdict Wednesday on one charge in the trial of 13 white supremacists, and the judge ordered more deliberations on two other counts despite the jurors’ contention they were deadlocked.
The jury said it reached a verdict on the charge of conspiracy to assassinate two federal officials, which had been brought against five of the defendants in the trial.
Still undecided are the charges of seditious conspiracy, brought against nine of the 13 defendants, and transporting stolen money, a charge faced by two defendants. The government contends the defendants planned to form an all-white nation in the Northwest.
Judge Morris Arnold received the verdict involving an alleged assassination plan, which was never carried out, but he told the court clerk not to make it public. The jurors then resumed deliberations for a time before breaking off talks for the day.
