Trapped Cave Explorers Rescued

SANTANDER, Spain — Seven of nine Spanish explorers trapped in a cave for four days escaped unharmed today when floods that had blocked their tunnel receded, the regional government said.
Despite their ordeal, the seven, aged 16 to 30, were said to be in good health. They walked out strapped to a steel cable installed by rescue workers to protect them against a still strong current in the river flowing through the exit tunnel. Two other members of the group still underground had tried to retrace their steps through the 19-mile cave. They were believed to be fit and expected to emerge Friday.
