Presidentialities

Congratulations, at last an article by an author with wit, intelligence and substance (“The Casual Assassination of the President,” by George C. Scott, April 3). It made Sunday Calendar worth opening.

George Scott is not only a good actor, he’s a great writer. What happened to that other actor-cum writer--Evelyn Keyes--and her clever essays?

Why does the L.A. Times hire those bubbleheaded “writers” on entertainment who seem to have the IQ of a cantaloupe and the interests of a retarded teen-ager? Why write down to your readers? Assume that they may appreciate a little mental stimulation.

Drop the Confidential-type sleaze, sex, violence, drugs. We deserve better in an otherwise excellent newspaper. You do have some classy writers, e.g., Charles Champlin, Sheila Benson and others.

P.S. It looks like ex-actors make better writers than presidents.
