A Spell of I-R-O-N-Y

Talk about a show biz twist. . . .

A crew member who once worked with best-actress nominee Sally Kirkland relates:

Back in the fall of 1981, Kirkland was set to be the leading lady in “Gypsy Angels.” Described as “a barnstorming love story,” it was all about a pilot who travels the country--doing air shows and crop dusting--who falls in love with a woman who’s a former topless dancer.

But Kirkland never went before the cameras.

Turns out the producers let her go because they didn’t think she was quite right for the part.

As for “Gypsy Angels”: It was shot but never completed.

“Lost” are the performances of Tige Andrews (of TV’s “Mod Squad”), Lyle Waggoner (who played the minister who marries the two leads) and--in their last roles--Peter Lawford and Carol Wayne.

As for the leading lady who replaced Kirkland, that was . . . Vanna White!
