Scrutinizing the Return to Churches

Share

Irene Webb, a vice president at the William Morris Agency, spends Sunday morning “passing the peace” in church, so she can deal with aggressive people during the rest of the week.

I think these baby boomers, yuppies, whatever, who have suddenly dropped back in are unclear on the concept.

In our family, we don’t attend any regular service, nor are we part of any organized religion. We just try to live our lives every day by being non-aggressive (passing the peace) and hoping that those with whom we come in contact will respond in kind. With that sort of philosophy, we probably can’t afford BMWs, ultra-trendy restaurants and the other trappings that are so important to those who feel the need to “talk about things that matter” once a week. We try to do it every day.

Of course, we are not perfect and may be less than saintly all the time. But we don’t separate weekdays from Sunday--or any other day of the week.
