Princess Caroline of Monaco jumped into the Florida-California chicken controversy by joking she would not eat West Coast chickens scheduled to be served at a banquet in her honor. The princess had requested a typical Florida meal for her three-day visit to Miami. Florida poultry growers complained Tuesday when they learned the stuffed chickens she would be served at a $2,500 a plate dinner today were raised in California. A spokeswoman for the Hotel Inter-Continental said hotel chefs think the California chickens taste better because they range freely, rather than being raised in a controlled environment. Informed that the chickens were not Florida grown, the princess joked, “My goodness. I’m very sad for the poultry producers of Florida. I won’t touch it.”
