The Soviet Union has followed up on informal pledges and officially notified the United States that it has stopped commercial whaling, U.S. Commerce Secretary C. William Verity said in Moscow. “This is a significant international achievement which removes a major obstacle to U.S.-Soviet cooperation in fisheries,” Verity said.
