Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven” has been banned in Beijing--as well as the rest of country--from an American pop music show set to debut Thursday on Chinese national radio. Chinese officials called the tune “disrespectful” to the composer, according to Robert Hill, chairman of ChinAmerica, the Los Angeles-based firm producing the show. Also off the play list: “Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for having an “offensive” title. Chinese officials do like Michael Jackson, Madonna and also “Edelweiss” from the musical “The Sound of Music.” “What can I tell you, they think that’s American pop music,” Hill shrugged.
