Local News in Brief : Plans for Marineland Site

Share

Preliminary plans for a resort hotel, an athletic club, tennis courts and a restaurant to be built on the former Marineland site were presented Tuesday to the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council by representatives of the Monaghan Co., which owns the property.

The first phase of the project, to be built on undeveloped land near Point Vicente Park, will take up to a year and a half to complete, said John Corcoran, a former Marineland manager who is a consultant for Monaghan.

The presentation before the council Tuesday “was informational; we were not seeking any type of approval,” Corcoran said. “This was something we elected to do because there was such great interest on the part of the community.”

Plans for a golf course, which had been discussed previously in connection with the hotel and conference center, were not presented.

An environmental impact report must be completed before the development goes before the Planning Commission, Corcoran said.
