Twenty-nine hostages freed in Algiers from a hijacked Kuwait Airways jet arrived home in Kuwait to a tumultuous reception as the whereabouts of the gunmen remained unclear. Western diplomatic sources said they have evidence that the hijackers had reached Beirut, but officials at Beirut’s airport denied that they landed there. The gunmen, who murdered two hostages while the hijacked jet was in Cyprus, disappeared before dawn Wednesday after abandoning their attempt to force Kuwait to release 17 terrorists jailed in the bombings of the U.S. and French embassies in Kuwait in 1983.
