Also, St. Joseph Hospital is welcoming back Dr. Richard W. Opfell, who will again become director of the hospital’s cancer services, effective July 1. Opfell, 61, was a former chief of staff at St. Joseph and directed the hospital’s cancer services in 1977-81, when he left to take his current position as director of hematology/oncology for the Manhattan Medical Group in New York City. Opfell will replace Dr. David A. Margileth, who wants to shed his administrative duties to devote more time to his private practice, Gaschen said.
