Twelve years after work started on “Roots” and eight years after the sequel went into production, LeVar Burton and Louis Gossett Jr. will re-create their roles as Kunta Kinte and Fiddler in “Roots Christmas,” third installment in the “Roots” saga based on Alex Haley Jr.’s history of his lineage. The ABC movie was scheduled to go into production at the Burbank Studios on Wednesday. Executive producer David Wolper said the two-hour movie will be filmed in 18 days at a cost of $4 million. The cost for all 12 hours of “Roots” was $6.5 million.
