About 30,000 people walked 20 miles in the rain and earned donors’ pledges of more than $3 million to feed the hungry, the organizer of the 19th annual Walk for Hunger in Boston said. Shoshana Pakciarcz, executive director of the walk’s sponsor, Project Bread, said the walk is the nation’s largest such effort to raise money to feed the hungry. Last year’s event drew 25,000 people and raised $1.7 million. Walkers started at Boston Common and passed eight checkpoints on the circular route through Newton, Cambridge and Boston. The contributions will go to soup kitchens, homeless shelters and urban gardens across Massachusetts.
