The British Broadcasting Corp. said that at least five people have contracted legionnaire’s disease at its London offices and that more cases are expected. A team of health experts has been set up to deal with the outbreak, in which an additional 15 people may have been infected. The first to show the pneumonia-like symptoms were a workman at the BBC’s headquarters, Broadcasting House, and a doorman at its West London offices. Health workers have disinfected the cooling systems at Broadcasting House in a bid to contain the disease, which is carried by bacteria in water droplets and has been known to flourish in air-conditioned premises.
