Belgium Reports 68% Increase in AIDS Cases

BRUSSELS —
Health officials on Wednesday reported a 68% increase in AIDS cases in Belgium in the past year and announced a new information campaign to combat the deadly disease.
Belgian Secretary of Health Wivina De Meester said 138 cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome were reported among Belgians at the end of March, up 68% from a year ago.
She said that at the end of March, 3,166 people were reported to be carriers of the AIDS virus in Belgium, up 11% in three months.
